The technological challenge Italcanna is constantly accepting takes us to develop tools with technical features hardly reconcilable just a few years ago. A great example is the newborn Tesla, a 2-piece rod thought for fishing but with impressive ballistic performances.
Fishing rods undergo compromises more and more every day. Compromises guided by customers’ choices:
- some prefer power, important weights, big baits, waves and seaweeds
- others look for more relaxed situations targeting middle-sized preys on long distances and extremely low shores, sometimes using undersized weights
- let’s do not forget deep shores, often with dirty bottoms, where the prey (likely a conger or moray) must be insistently teased
With Tesla we aimed to create a rod able to cover most of the situations an angler can face from the shore. Its extremely sensible tip can show every little movement of the fish, perfectly absorbing the broken wave and placing itself in the right position favoring the current. Dealing with spikes or big preys in the rocks, the tip leaves space to the second element, incredibly quick and ready.
This is Tesla’s secret:
a short and compliant tip but super quick arched response to make the top part work, important but not impossible handle. The overall answering speed of the rod is high and with a no rebound come-back, be it with both light (90-100 g – 3,1-3,5 oz) and extreme weights (175+ g - 6,2+ oz baits).
Not too hard in casting phases, obviously depending on the power, but needing a little practice to get used to the extreme answering speed. The tip also allows a constant and precise contact with the weight during castings, making aerial ones much easier.
This rod’s sensibility is surreal and the tip creates kind of a pillow with the prey allowing for the use of thinner than usual leaders, all this to favor even more the fun and sensibility.
The rod, 4.35 m (14.3 ft) long, is cut in two equal sections and perfectly balanced, the employed materials made it also possible to build a very light tip. The butt has a rightfully reduced diameter without falling into extremism that often puts average-sized hands in trouble. Don’t be tricked by the length because the dead tip nullifies itself during casting taking the rod to a 4 real m (13,1 ft) length, manageable by all physically and technically average skilled anglers.
Reminding you this is not a long casting rod and shouldn’t be used on the field, we must say it often went beyond 230 m (745,6 ft) in our testers’ hands. This said, we still discourage its use in long casting competitions being this rod not thought for extreme technical castings.
At the end we can say this tool is extremely sophisticated and fun, overcoming the concept of a heavy and technically-hard two-piece rod. The features include incredible sensibility and extreme versatility.
The standard model is made with screw reelseat and, and only under request with coaster clips.
